Ectoparasitic (host(s): Apis mellifera [APIDAE] Domestic Bee).

 

Diagnosis

Adults of Braula coeca are coloured rust-brown. The head has very small eyes, and lacks ocelli. Adults are wingless and lack halteres and a scutellum. Legs are short and thick, terminating in wide comb-like claws. The dorsal surface of the thorax and abdomen are covered with strong bristles.
