Subfamily Boreomysinae Holt & Tattersall, 1905

Introduction

Boreomysinae are generally meso-bathypelagic mysid shrimp, widely distributed throughout the world oceans. The family comprises two genera (Boreomysis Sars, 1869 and Birsteiniamysis Tchindonova, 1981) and about 38 species (Meland 2002). One species is known from Australian waters. Müller (1993) and Price et al. (2001) catalogued the group.

 

Diagnosis

Rostrum obtuse. Eyes normally developed. Mandible lacinia mobilis well developed, spine row present between lacinia mobilis and molar process. 1st maxilliped exopod well developed. 2nd thoracopod developed as a maxilliped, exopod well developed. Marsupium composed of seven pairs of oostegites. Uropod endopod statocyst present; exopod with proximal articulation, outer margin with slender and robust setae (proximal end entire, ending in two or three spines, distal margin setose).
