Introduction

This species is widespread in Australia although confirmed records are patchy with much material identified simply to genus probably belonging to this species. The species, which was previously known as Eurinoscopus punctatus, is a known vector of tomato big bud and potato purple top wilt phytoplasma diseases in Australia and a suspected vector of Citrus dieback (Grylls 1979).

All stages: phloem feeder (associated flora: Medicago sativa Linnaeus [FABACEAE]; Cassinia leptophylla R.Br. [ASTERACEAE]; Cassinia vauvilliersii Hook.f [ASTERACEAE]; Erigeron sp. [ASTERACEAE]), vector.

Diagnosis

Punctures on forewings occasionally dark brown. Male pygophore processes slender, straight or slightly sinuate, directed posteriorly, tapering gradually to acute apex. Styles with apical process markedly swollen over distal half, tapering to acute dorsally hooked apex. Aedeagus simple; shaft directed dorsally; gonopore extending to just basad of midlength of shaft; anterior incision slightly shorter than gonopore. Length ♂ 4.16–4.96 mm (Knight 1983).
