Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
- Rowe, F.W.E. in Rowe, F.W.E. & Gates, J. 1995. Echinodermata. In, Wells, A. (ed.). Zoological Catalogue of Australia. Vol. 33. Melbourne : CSIRO Australia xiii 510 pp. [Date published 30 May 1995] (Bathyplotes sulcatus and the species here included in its synonymy lack the more robust table-like spicules found in the posterior end of the body in
Bathyplotes tizardi . However, all share the feature of 'C'-shaped rods in the body wall. Variations such as occur in body form, tube feet and papillae arrangement are not considered to justify recognition of the number of species currently included in the genus Bathyplotes, particularly in view of the few specimens collected and their generally poor state of preservation)
