Introduction

This species and B. rubra (Evans) both have a dark reddish appearance and the pronotum is expansive anteriorly giving these insects the appearance of very small Thymbrini. B. obscura is only known from the type locality, Darwin, and neighbouring parts of the Northern Territory.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: gregarious, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Face of head mottled with pale and dark brown. Pronotum and scutellum concolorous with the head. Tegmen, including the veins, pale hyaline brown; claval margin dark brown. Length ♂ 3.8 mm (Evans 1966).
