Family BUCCINIDAE Rafinesque, 1815
- Buccinidae Rafinesque, C.S. 1815. Analyse de la nature, ou tableau de l'univers et des corps organises. Palermo (Italy) : Privately Published 224 pp. [Date published April to July] [145].
Type genus:
Buccinum Linnaeus, 1758.
Introduction
Following the revised classification of Kantor et al. (2022) most Australian genera previously placed in the Buccinidae are reassigned to different families. The single exception being the genus Buccipagoda Ponder, 2010 which Kantor et al. (2022) were not able to confidently assign to a family, listing it as unplaced with a possible allocation to Buccinidae. We retain the genus in Buccinidae until further studies can resolve it's relationship to other buccinoid taxa.
