Introduction

All species of the family Bomolochidae are parasitic, living mainly in the branchial cavities of actinopterygian fishes, and occasionally in the nostrils, nasal sinuses or orbits of these fishes. Seventeen genera are recognised for the family, and 103 species. Additionally, there are four genera inquirenda. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 449) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
