Introduction

Although often reported from Australia, Castanheira et al. (2019) could not find any specimens in the collections they examined for their revision of the Arachnura of Australia and New Zealand. The holotype of Epeira caudata Bradley, 1876 could not be found, and the original description was not felt to share a close affinity to Arachnura where the species was placed by Simon (1895), leading Castanheira et al. (2019) to consider the species name to be nomen dubium.
