Type species:
Apocampta nigra Schiner, 1868 by original designation.
Introduction
A monotypic genus of Australian horse fly distinguished from other Scionini by the slender, uniform black body and wings marked with blackish radial staining. Although it has been recorded to blood feed on humans (Mackerras 1960), little is known on the biology of the genus.
The genus was previously considered a synonym of Scaptia Walker, 1850 (Mackerras 1960), however, it was later reinstated to a valid genus based on strong molecular and morphological data (Lessard et al. 2013; Lessard 2014).
