  Type data:

   Lectotype BMNH ♂ (coll.: 20.iii.1921. There is some confusion over the type locality of this name. Myers' original locality data are as given here and he clearly refered to "holotype, allotype and paratypes". Knight (1976) noted that the "male holotype" comprised two specimens mounted together and designated one of them as the lectotype but the locality given by Knight was York Bay, Wellington Province. This might mean that Knight did not have Myer's original material), Tararua Range, Wellington district, New Zealand.

Introduction

This species is usually bright yellow but its colour can vary from dull brownish to white, possibly depending on its preservation history. The species is very common and widespread in Australia and New Zealand on a wide host range including garden ornamentals, weeds and native plant species.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: parenchyma feeder.

Diagnosis

Entirely yellow in typical form. Vertex triangularly rounded apically. Male genitalia. Aedeagus with two shafts curving slightly posteriad and slightly inwards towards apices, each tapered from base to apex and bearing apical gonopore, lacking apical processes (Fletcher & Larivière 2009).
