Species Anzygina billi Fletcher & Larivière, 2009

Compiler and date details

9 March 2012 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The aedeagus of this species was first published as an aberrant form of the New Zealand species Anzygina dumbletoni (Ghauri) by Knight (1976) but the form was regarded as being separate from A. dumbletoni by Fletcher & Larivière (2009) on the basis that specimens from along the Queensland coast showed no variation in the shape of the aedeagus. The original material on which Knight (1976) based his illustrations has not been located in NZAC and the record from New Zealand remains to be confirmed. The species name "honours Dr Bill Knight, formerly of BMNH, who has contributed much to our knowledge of Cicadellidae worldwide and particularly in New Zealand".
