Scaptia (Pseudoscione) anomala Mackerras, 1960 by original designation.
Introduction
Small (length 6–10 mm), hairy and rather concolorous dark species, with a diverging frons, proboscis usually short and thick, and subcylindrical palpi. Occurring in high-altitude mountainous regions in Australia and New Zealand, including the Great Dividing Range in southeast Australia and along the Southwest Alpine Fault in the South Island of New Zealand (Lessard 2014). A valid key to all four known species was provided by Lessard & Yeates (2012).
