Collingwood : CSIRO Publishing Vol. 4 xiv 529 pp. & CD-ROM. [320] (Note #690. Amyna axis (Guenée, 1852) and Amyna octo (Guenée, 1852) were published simultaneously. A. axis (Guenée) was given priority by Walker ([1857a]: 300) as first reviser. Under the Code Art. 24(b) it is stated that where two names are published simultaneously the senior is determined by the first reviser who must mention both names and choose between them. Walker's action fulfils these requirements. However Hampson (1894) gave A. octo (Guenée) priority, probably on the basis of 'page priority', and has been followed, incorrectly, by subsequent authors. Guenée (1852a) described A. octo on p. 233. In an errata at the end of the book, (p. 407) published simultaneously, he separated two species for which he introduced the genus Amyna Guenée. These were A. selenampha Guenée and A. axis Guenée. In a note he stated that he considered A. octo (Guenée) a variety of A. axis Guenée. In terms of modern nomenclatural rules Guenée's action appears inexplicable but he may have thought the name inappropriate having been applied to a species he considered a variety)
