Species Amblyomma breviscutatum Neumann, 1899

Introduction

Amblyomma breviscutatum was described by Neumann, 1899, page 214, and in the same work, Koch & Neumann described Amblyomma cyprium, on page 219. Santos Dias (1956) showed that these two names are synonymous, and selected breviscutatum as the valid name on the basis of page priority. This would now be interpreted as the action of a First Reviser under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Voltzit & Keirans (2002) also used breviscutatum as the valid name for this species. It was recorded from Australia by Kemp & Wilson (1979) under the name Amblyomma cyprium cyprium.
