Introduction
Spiders in the cribellate genus Stiphidion make messy hammock, or ‘sombrero’, webs that often adorn overhanging rocks, logs and buildings in south-eastern Australia. The type species, S. facetum, occurs from Tasmania north to south-eastern Queensland and in northern areas of New Zealand, where it is probably introduced (Forster & Wilton, 1973). The other three species are less widespread.
