   Syntype(s) BMNH 4♀ (coll.: 25.ii-12.iii.1936, R.E. Turner, BM 1936-28), Perth, Western Australia.

Introduction

This species was described from four females from Perth, Western Australia. Fennah (1949) commented that A. darwinii and A. vespula may have been two forms of the one variable species. However, several other forms which clearly represent undescribed species are known from WA and the features distinguishing the two described species are sufficient to recognise them as being valid. A revision of the genus to describe the male genitalia of the species is needed.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

Diagnosis

Frons distinctly broader at widest part than long in middle line (1.3 : 1) widest part below level of antennae. Tegmina with apical margin deeply rounded, devoid of a marginal membrane. Abdomen with ventral surface of fourth segment with four or five submedian pits, and one or two on each side; fifth and sixth ventrites each with a row of ten pits on each side. Clypeus, frons except for a mediobasal spot, genae, lateral fields of pronotum, pro- and mesotarsi, pleurites of thorax and sides of abdomen piceous; lateral and basal portion of vertex narrowly, disc of pronotum and mesonotum tawny orange; postnotum and medial area of abdominal tergites tawny yellow; carinae of head and mesonotum white; distal portion of clypeus, coxae of all legs, lateral margins of postnotum and of third, fourth and fifth abdominal tergites and all abdominal ventrites pallid to yellow. Antennae fuscous. Legs testaceous, lightly suffused fuscous. Tegmina hyaline, veins fuscous and overlain with fuscous. Female — Length 4.2 mm; tegmen 6.5 mm (Fennah 1949).
