Holotype ZMB 5054 in alcohol (recorded as a "Stücke" (piece)), off South Africa, Francis Bight, South Atlantic Ocean, 100 m [34°7.3'S, 24°59.3'E].

Introduction
The animals collected by Thomson & Mackinnon (1911: 666) from near Sydney appear to represent a clavulariid species of unknown identity. That species does not appear to be the same as the original Antarctic specimens named Alcyonium reptans, which also seems to represent a species of Clavularidae.
