Diagnosis
Actiniidae with very wide pedal disc and smooth, low column. A deep fosse is present, and bears a ring of simple or slightly compound marginal spherules, which are commonly conspicuous but can be covered up by the margin in contraction. Endodermal marginal sphincter muscle weak or strong, diffuse, rarely with slight tendency to be meso-endodermal. Tentacles retractile with ectodermal longitudinal muscles. Perfect mesenteries numerous more at the base than at the margin; all stronger mesenteries except directives fertile; retractor muscles of mesenteries diffuse. Cnidom: spirocysts, atrichs, basitrichs, Microbasic p-mastigophores.
