Subtribe Actenodina Kerremans, 1890

Introduction

This subtribe exists in Australia for species in two genera: Belionota Eschscholtz and Merimna Saunders. Belionota has species widely distributed in the Old World tropics and subtropics from Africa, Madagascar, India, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippine archipelago to northern Australia. The last revision of the genus was by Théry (1929) and a recent checklist was given by Bellamy (1991). Merimna is represented by a single species, Merimna atrata (Laporte & Gory), a beetle that has been recorded in every state in continental Australia and which is known to be attracted to fire and bright lights.
