Compiler and date details
April 2011 - Scott Ginn, Australian Museum, Sydney, Australia
Introduction
Apsilocephalidae is a small family of flies, known from North America, Tasmania and most recently recorded from New Zealand. Nagatomi et al. (1991) established the family to accommodate problematic genera that had previously been classified in family Therevidae. Two genera were initially described from Tasmania but have now been synonymised into the single genus Clesthentia (Winterton & Irwin, 2008).
Biology
The biology and life histories of species in this family are virtually unknown.
