Introduction
Ancorabolids are typically found in the interstital waters and in the flocculent layers of muddy marine sediments. They have occasionally been reported from brackish waters. They are rarely found beyond depths of 100 metres.
They have a wide geographic distribution, being found in the tropics and subantarctic islands, as well as everywhere in between (Boxshall & Halsey 2004). Two genera, each with one species, are listed here for the Australian fauna.
