Introduction

Species in the family Aetideidae can be either pelagic, hyperbenthic or benthic. Only one genus in this family inhabits freshwater(Senecella); all other genera are marine. Aetideids have varied prey preferences, consuming both animal and plant matter. Twenty-nine genera are included in the family Aetideidae, and over 200 species. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 54) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
