Family ACHIPTERIIDAE Thor, 1929
- Austrachipteriidae Luxton, M. 1985. Cryptostigmata (Arachnida: Acari) - a concise review. Fauna of New Zealand 7: 1-106.
Introduction
In the classification of Schatz et al. (2011), the family Achipteriidae includes 15 genera and 117 species world-wide. The Australian fauna is poorly known, and includes only four species in a single genus. The most recent work on the Australian fauna was by Balogh & Balogh (1983), who described three of the four known species, from rainforest litter in northern New South Wales. The family Achipteriidae is also known from Australia on the basis of unidentified species, as reported by Beyer et al. (2011).
