   Holotype BPBM ♂ (coll.: ix.1902, Helm's collection), Macleay River, New South Wales.

Introduction

This species, which is based on a single male specimen from the north coast of New South Wales, is very close to Siphanta acuta (Walker) from which it can be differentiated by examination of the male genitalia.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

Diagnosis

Male pygofer with dorsolateral corners produced posteriorly to form large square process. Paramere with large process angled to dorsal paramere margin so that paramere appears bifid. The structure of the aedeagus (illustrated by Fletcher 1985) can be used to differentiate this species from S. acuta. Females are unknown. In addition, the tegminal granules are slightly darkened apically in the only known specimen of this species. Since this feature is consistent within other species of Siphanta, it is possible that this provides another means by which the two species can be differentiated. (Fletcher 1985).
