Introduction

This tropical species has been recorded from northern coastal areas of the Northern Territory and Queensland although it was also recorded from the Ovens Valley in Victoria by Trebicki et al. (2010). The name was treated by Evans (1966) as a synonym of S. festivus Matsumura but it is clear that Evans had misidentified the latter species. Evans (1966) figure of S. festivus appears to be S. foshoi Fletcher & Semeraro.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

White with orange and dark brown. Face white with 4–5 clearly defined transverse dark brown bands on apical half, the uppermost marginal extending either from ocellus to ocellus or curving unbroken around upper margins of ocellus to eye on each side. Vertex whitish testaceous with broad orange band extending between anterior half of eyes, interrupted medially to form orange patch on either side of midline. Pronotum faintly orange anteriorly fading to light brown posteriorly with indistinct transverse whitish band on anterior half and varying patches of darker brown posteriorly. Scutellum white with orange apically and anteriorly and dark brown laterally. Tegmen hyaline with brown veins, dark on recurved Rs, R1a and R1b, and with brown filigree markings in larger cells, smoky in apical cells (Fletcher & Semeraro 2001).

Fletcher and Semeraro (2001) also described and figured the male genitalia.
