Genus Protinotus Day, 1999

Compiler and date details

10 April 2012 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This genus currently includes two species from Queensland but Day (1999) comments that additional material of both species may reveal that they are not congeneric, with P. doddi possibly being assigned to Pogonella Evans. Since P. doddi was designated as the type species of Protinotus by Day (1999), such an action would make Protinotus an objective junior synonym of Pogonella and require a new generic name be created for P. albosignatus (Distant). Day (1999) gave the etymology as "The name is derived from the presumed relationship to Otinotus."
