North Atlantic-Indo-Pacific Oceans, Subarctic and Subantarctic (in Pacific between about 35º–50ºN and 40º–60ºS, in the Atlantic from 35º–70ºN, and from South African waters near 30º–40ºS).

Prey species for whales and fish, mostly above 140 m at night but not in mixed surface layer, probably descend below 500 m by day.
