• Rigula Day, M.F. 1999. The genera of Australian Membracidae (Hemiptera : Auchenorrhyncha). Invertebrate Taxonomy 13: 629-747 [706].

  Type species:

   Rigula calperum Day, 1999 by original designation.

 

Introduction

This endemic genus contains four species each isolated geographically from the others. Three of them were described as new by Day (1999) and the other, from the Northern Territory, listed as undescribed in that same work. The name is derived from an Aboriginal tribal name.

Diagnosis

Readily distinguished by the broad, markedly ridged lateral pronotal processes and the median pronotal process vertically enlarged posteriorly. Setae on tegmen surface. Crossveins between M1 and M2 (Day 1999).

Day (1999) also provided a comprehensive description of the genus.
