Introduction

This genus of bizarre leafhoppers has a disjunct distribution around the world. Species have been recorded in Africa, the Philippines, Central America and Australia where the endemic H. bunyensis Evans has been recorded in Queensland and New South Wales.

Diagnosis

Kopf stark verlängert; Scheitel doppelt so lang wie die Augen, fast eben, gerundetspitzig zulaufend, mit blattähnlichen Seitenrändern; die sehr kleinen Ozellen vor den Augen unterhalb des Scheitelrandes an der Stirn-Schläfennaht. Basis der massig gewölbten Stirn kielförmig zusammengedrückt und erhaben; Clipeus gross, rechteckig; unterer Wangenrand fast grade. Im Deckflügel viel Ulnarzellen (Jacobi 1910).

The head is broadly laminately extended and dorsoventrally thickened. On the face, the anteclypeus is parallel-sided and the lora extend anteriorly almost as far as the outer margins of the maxillary plates. The frontoclypeus is anteriorly flattened and posteriorly slopes steeply on either side; apically it consists of a sharp, deep keel. The ocelli are on the face, adjacent to the sides of the epicranial suture. The crown of the head, which is more than three times the length of the pronotum, is parallel-sided and apically rounded with a raised marginal rim. It is posteriorly slightly convex and anteriorly concave. The eyes are longer than the pronotum which is parallel-sided. The venation of the tegmina is distinct and vein M1+2 is present and apically incorporated with Rs (Evans 1966, as Stenometopius).
