Introduction

This species is known from a few specimens found in SE New South Wales and western Victoria. It is close to E. montanus in the structure of the male genitalia and the greenish coloration of the thorax and tegmina, an attribute it shares with the type species. The specific name honours G.W. Kirkaldy who made a major contribution to the knowledge of Australian cicadellid species.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Lora pale yellow; anteclypeus dark brown becoming black on median portion; frons dark testaceous with dark brown transverse striping. Crown yellow-testaceous with apical spots well developed. Pronotum and scutellum greenish. Tegmen evenly greenish hyaline. Face of head with lora enlarged, but not bulbous, overlapping margins of anteclypeus. Frons evenly convex. Crown evenly convex, shagreen. Pronotum glossy smooth with scattered puncture marks and transverse depression in anterior half. Scutellum shagreen. Tegmen with M3+4 and CuA united closer to M-Cu crossvein than to apical margin. Tegmen with 4 apical cells (Fletcher & Condello 1994).

Fletcher & Condello (1994) also described and illustrated the male genitalia.
