Type species:
Eleotris ophicephalus Valenciennes, 1837 by original designation.
Introduction
Until recently it was assumed that only one species was known in the genus. The name Ophocara porocepala was widely used for the Australian species, but is now known to be restricted to the Indian Ocean (Keith & Mennesson 2021).
