Introduction

This New Guinean species was recorded on Murray Island, Torres Strait in 1985. It is distinctive in its pale pinkish longitudinal striping although B. rubrostriata (Melichar) is also striped and can occur in a pallid form similar to B. bacchusi. The male genitalia should be checked to confirm identifications.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Colour sordid cream, faintly and irregularly marked with pale orange or brown, pronotum with wide medial stripe whitish with a thin pinkish medial line; scutellum with apex and basal angles orange; forewings pale brownish grey. Head slightly wider than pronotum (Knight 1987).

Knight (1987) described and figured the male genitalia.
