Introduction

Each species of Myerslopella has a discrete distribution within the wet tropics of North Queensland. This one is the most northerly species, occurring north of Bloomfield River near the summits of Mt Finnigan and Mt Misery between 800 and 1100 m. The species was named in honour of Dr Geoff B. Monteith.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: litter, phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Crown narrower than pronotum and 50% longer, weakly notched at meson; pronotal "paranotal" lobes, when present, lower than upper level of eyes; humeral angles of tegmina very weak, tegmina nearly flat on dorsum; tips of tegmina recurved; abdominal tubercles forming six widely separated rows; abdomen strongly inflated with tubercles forming prominent crest in lateral aspect. Male connective triangular, aedeagus strongly curved at base, nearly straight beyond dorsal projection, tip rounded, style tip elongate, blunt, digitate. Length ♂ 1.8–2.4, ♀ 2.3–2.7 mm (Hamilton 1999).
