   Holotype BMNH ♂ (coll: 21.ii.1927), N.W. Victoria.

Introduction

This species was described simply from "N.W. Victoria" and is small and pale with some dark markings. The only other species recorded south of the subtropical regions of the continent, P. froggatti Kirkaldy, is darker in colour and slightly larger.

All stages: phloem feeder.

Diagnosis

Vertex shorter medially than broad at base, evenly and obtusely rounding into frons, as wide at apex as at base, lateral margins moderately elevated, apical margin convex with median carina moderately prominent, basal compartment of vertex represented by a triangular facet laterobasally on each side; frons in middle line longer than wide at widest part (about 1.4 : 1), widest at two thirds from base, lateral margins arcuate, median carina simple, percurrent to median ocellus, weaker distally than basally; lateral margins subfoliate, incurved to frontoclypeal suture; clypeus as wide as frons at apex, postclypeal disc tumid, shorter in middle than broad at base, ecarinate medially, lateral carinae feeble, anteclypeus in profile straight; rostrum moderately long, reaching to middle of abdomen; antennae short, basal segment broader than long, second segment longer than first and a little longer than broad; ocelli rather large. Pronotum with disc shorter in middle line than broad at anterior margin (about 1 : 1.6), lateral carinae strongly diverging, parallel to hind margin of eyes. Total length of mesonotum a little more than that of vertex and pronotum combined. Stramineous, a narrow line on each side at junction of postclypeal disc and anteclypeus, rostrum apically, and distal segment of all tarsi, a suffusion on pleurites and metacoxae, abdomen and genitalia, dark castaneous. Tegmina fuscous-castaneous, a little paler in middle of some cells; veins and margins pallid stramineous, apical veins deeply infuscate just inside margin. Wings sordid white, with veins dilute fuscous. Male: length, 1.9 mm, tegmen 2.1 mm. Female: length, 2.1 mm, tegmen, 2.5 mm (Fennah 1963).
