Species Halotydeus destructor (Tucker, 1925)

Introduction

Early accounts of this species sometimes show the authorship of the name destructor as Jack, 1908 (for example, Tucker 1925; Newman 1925; Womersley 1933). However, Jack gave a description of the appearance and biology of this species, but referred to it only by the vernacular name Black Sand Mite. The name destructor dates from Tucker (1925) (see Halliday 1991). This species is a very important crop pest in Australia, and has been the subject of a very extensive literature. Only selected references are listed here.
