Diagnosis

Pedal disc well developed, adhesive. Column smooth or with ectodermal invaginations that do not pierce the column wall, divisible into scapus and scapulus. Mesenteries arranged hexamerously or irregularly, with number at base about twice that at margin; 6-12 pairs complete and sterile. One or two siphonoglyphs; may not be supported by directives. Sphincter mesogloeal, strong. Cinclides absent. Inner tentacles longer than outer, some form catch tentacles bearing large holotrichs. Acontia with two types of basitrichs and one microbasic amastigophore. Commensal with hermit crabs, often also with the anemone Calliactis polypus. Cnidom: spirocysts, basitrichs, microbasic amastigophores, microbasic p-mastigophores.
