Introduction

This species is based on a series of specimens collected on more than one occasion at Cabramatta, a western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales by M.I. Nikitin. Mstislav Ivanovich Nikitin (1.iv.1911–8.i.1986) was born in Irkutsk, Siberia and was interested in insects from an early age. He spent his early scientific life at the Harbin Museum but migrated to Australia in 1957 where he collected insects for sale to help support himself. Much of his material collected during this period was sold to the BMNH. He gained an entomological assistant position with the NSW Department of Agriculture where he worked from 1959 to 1975 eventually retiring as a Senior Technical Officer. He published 61 scientific papers, mainly on the insects of Manchuria between 1933 and 1945 and his autobiography was published in 1986 in four parts in the Circular of the Entomological Society of New South Wales (v.359: 7–22, v.361: 30–48, v.363: 57–62 and v.365: 64–80).
