Introduction
Of the many species of Apotropina recognised in Australia, the presence of Apotropina bispinosa remains uncertain. The species was first described from, and restricted to, Papau New Guinea (see Becker, 1911). The species was then moved to the genus Oscinelloides before the genus was synonymised with Apotropina. Apotropina bispinosa was then identified from Australia by Forster (1992). Ang et al. (2024) notes that their examination of type specimens in the MfN do not match descriptions provided by Becker (1911) and Malloch (1940), and they were unable to examine specimens collected by Forster (1992) - they suggest that a detailed assessment of the type series of A. bispinosa be undertaken to clarify the species identity. At present, they have elected to include A. bispinosa in their key of the Australian Apotropina.
