Genus Chiriphe Walker, [1863]

Introduction

Holloway (1984) uses Scaptesyle Walker, 1854 in a more restrictive sense than Edwards (1996), including mainly Oriental species along with one species which occurs in New Guinea. The Australian species previously referred to Scaptesyle Walker, 1854 are temporarily held here in Chiriphe Walker, [1863], the next available valid name. Likewise, the majority of Australian species previously placed in the genus Damias Boisduval, 1832 are not in Damias Boisduval, 1832 as used in the restrictive sense by Holloway (1984), and have been transferred to Chiriphe Walker, [1863] as the next available valid name. Chiriphe Walker, [1863] is used here as a "holding" genus until such a time as a formal revision is undertaken.
