Type data: lectotype ZMUC ♂*; Fabricius in the original description did not indicate the number of specimens described; Corbet, A.S. 1940. The identity of the Fabrician species Papilio sphinx and Papilio hylax. The Entomologist 73: 275–277 [275] (referred to a single specimen in ZMUC but did not refer to it as a type); Zimsen, E. 1964. The Type Material of I.C. Fabricius. Copenhagen : Munksgaard 656 pp. [518] (listed the species but did not locate a specimen).
