Introduction

Zygometrids are known from Japan, the East Indian region and Australia, west to Sri Lanka. Two genera are known, one of which is recorded in Australian waters, represented by four of the five known species.

The family is distinguished from others in the order Comatulida by the following combination of character states: arms always more than five; pinnule combs absent; elements of the IBr series united by syzygy; first brachial syzygy at 3+4, second at 9+10. This family as a whole is in critical need of revision.
