Genus Vindula Hemming, 1934

  • Vindula Hemming, F. 1934. New names for three genera of Rhopalocera. The Entomologist 67: 77 [77] [before 1934 this genus was incorrectly known as Cynthia Fabricius, 1807 owing to an error by Scudder, S.H. 1875. Historical sketch of the generic names proposed for butterflies. A contribution to systematic nomenclature. Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 10: 91–293 (152) who stated that Papilio arsinoe Cramer, 1777 was the type species of Cynthia Fabricius, 1807; Scudder had overlooked the earlier designation by Westwood, J.O. 1840. An Introduction to the Modern Classification of Insects; founded on the natural habits and corresponding organization of the different families. London Vol. 2 (Synopsis of the genera of the British insects.) 158 pp. of Papilio cardui Linnaeus, 1758 as the type species for Cynthia Fabricius, 1807; Hemming, F. 1967.
