  Type species:

   Murex tubinellus Linnaeus, 1758 (Wenz attributed the type species fixation to Herrmannsen (1852), but we have not found it in that work. Winckworth, (1945: 145) subsequently designated Murex turbinellus Linnaeus, 1758, as type species; he attributed this fixation to Cossmann (1901 65), who however, had selected Turbinella cornigera Lamarck as type species, but this was not an originally included nominal species) by original designation, see Winkworth, R. 1945. • Cynodonta Schumacher, 1817.

  Type species:

   Murex ceramicus Linnaeus, 1758 by monotypy.
