Introduction

The genus Unionicola has been divided into at least 50 subgenera (Harvey, 1998; Smit, 2008). I have not attempted to allocate the Australian species to subgenera, and I only list the subgenera that have been used in an Australian context, as synonyms of Unionicola at the genus level.

In addition to the named species listed here, unidentified species of Unionicola have been reported from Australia by Malipatil & Blyth (1982) and Smit (1992).
