Introduction
This species was originally described from the Philippines, taken off Bohol in 60 fathoms. Since the mid-19th century the name has been used for a species commonly found in beach washups in southern Australia, including Tasmania. More recently it has been recognised from the Philippines and Solomon Islands, in 110 and 396 m. It is unlikely that all these records refer to the same species. The southern Australian records may be Turbonilla macleayana, which is listed here as a synonym.
