Introduction

The family Tuckerellidae includes a single cosmopolitan genus of plant parasitic mites. They are easily recognised by the expanded and flattened fan-like setae on the dorsal idiosoma. Some species are pests of citrus and other fruit trees (Walter et al. 2009). The most recent taxonomic revision of the family was by Smith Meyer & Ueckermann (1997), who provided a key to 23 species, and only a few new species have been described since then. Beard & Walter (2005) summarised the taxonomic history of the family, and described all life cycle stages of a new Australian species. The Australian fauna now includes five species. In addition to the species listed here, unidentified species of Tuckerellidae have been reported by Beyer et al. (2011) and Majer et al. (2013).
