Extra Ecological Information

Adult recorded biting humans in hoop pine plantation; larva found in stumps of eucalypts near rainforest margin, a hole in paperbark tea-tree, decayed wood placed in a hollow tree stump, tree holes, log holes and artificial containers such as tyres and trash; the smooth-siphoned larval form of this species develops in the absence of coarse debris in tree holes with small and/or side openings, while the spiny-siphoned form develops in larger tree holes containing coarse debris of wood or leaves; the response of 1st instar larvae to the medium determines their subsequent form.
