Ecological Descriptors

Adult: pest, volant.

Larva: aquatic.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult appears to be diurnal in biting activity and attacks humans and sheep; may become a nuisance pest in some rural areas if domestic container breeding is prevalent; isolation of Gan Gan virus from specimens collected on the south coast of NSW; larva found in tree holes and eucalypt stumps but commonly found in artificial containers such as water tanks, drums, tyres, jars and similar containers holding clean water (or with leaf debris) for long periods.
