Family TRIPLOGYNIIDAE Funk, 1977
Introduction
The family Triplogyniidae includes two genera and nine species of large heavily sclerotised mites that have been collected in tropical forest habitats in Asia, Central America and Africa (Seeman & Walter 1997). They occur in soil and litter, dung, compost, rotting fungi, in nests and tunnels made by insects, under bark, and in rodent nests. One species is known from Australia, collected from rotting fungi on fallen logs in southeast Queensland. Funkotriplogynium iagobadius is an aggressive predator that fed on insect larvae, mites and nematodes, and is sometimes phoretic on passalid beetles (Seeman & Walter 1997). Proctor et al. (2011) reported an unidentified species from Queensland.
