Tribe Tiracerini Besuchet, 1986

Introduction

The Tiracerini holds a single genus, Tiracerus Besuchet, from the Australian Region, and a few undescribed genera have been reported from New Caledonia (Besuchet 1991: 515; Chandler 2001: 537).

 

Diagnosis

Head cylindrical, frontal rostrum strongly projecting; with 3 antennomeres, antennomeres I very short, often difficult to see, antennomeres III longest; lacking apicolateral cavities for maxillary palpi. Abdomen depressed at base of tergal plate; visible tergite 4 (VII) lacking adjacent paratergites. Legs with basal 2 tarsomeres very short. Aedeagus symmetric, median lobe reduced, parameres elongate, lacking dorsal diaphragm in the few specimens examined.
